They make being a new mommy easy…

The girls are still sleeping through the night…about 10 – 11 hours.  They are also learning to put themselves to sleep.  We’ve been putting them in their basinets for naps.  We put them down awake and within minutes, they have fallen asleep on their own.  They are rockstar babies.  They make my job as a new mom so enjoyable and easy.

Meet your grandpa

Doug’s parents came for their summer vacation last Wednesday and are staying with us for two weeks.  It was the first time that the girls met their grandpa.  They were able to watch the twins while Doug and I attended our church’s annual marriage getaway in Palm Desert.  It was bittersweet being away from them.  Doug and I enjoyed our time alone, but I missed them so much.  The retreat was amazing, and we had so much fun.  We even got massages at the spa in our hotel on Friday.  By Sunday I was ready to come home and love on my girls.  It was weird…I was only gone for two days, but when I saw them, they looked bigger, older, different.  It’s been a great visit with family so far.  Doug even had some family from Oklahoma come for a visit, and we had such a great time with them.  What sweet, nice people!  Anyways, here are some pictures of Grandpa holding his grandtwins and one of me, Doug, Kim, and Ted from the marriage getaway.

The girls are now three months, and they are getting so big.  They are constantly smiling, cooing, and baby talking.  I absolutely love being their mommy!  I never realized you could love something so much.  They bring such joy into my life.

Ears pierced

I had my ears pierced as a baby so I always knew that if I ever had a baby girl, I would get her ears pierced.  I’ve noticed with my pregnancy and nursing that everyone is going to have an opinion about if you should or shouldn’t or how and when to do things so I got my share of people offering their opinions about me piercing their ears.  In the end, they are my daughters and it was my decision.  I’m glad I did it.

I was starting to have second thoughts yesterday morning so I even called my pediatrician’s office to ask for advice.  My nurse told me that as long as the girls have had their first tetanus shot, which they had, that it was fine.  I also called a friend who recently had her daughter’s ears pierced when she was two months old, and she seemed to calm my nerves.  I gave them some baby Tylenol, and we were off to Daniel’s Jewelers at the Riverside Plaza.

Isabelle was first.  I sat in a high stool chair with Izzy facing sideways.  I held her arm down with one hand and her head to my chest with the other.  Obviously, she cried.  After they did the second ear, I turned her towards me, gave her her binky, and comforted her.  She immediately stopped crying.  I handed her over to my mom, and she spent the rest of the time gazing at the balloons they had up in the store.

Abigail was second.  Her cry was on a different level than Izzy’s.  She had that cry when she opens her mouth but nothing comes out for 15 seconds, and then it’s mass hysteria.  However, after her second ear was done, she immediately stopped as soon as I gave her her binky and started rocking her.  We were there probably a good 10 minutes after their ears were done to pay the bill and get them strapped back in their car seats.  They didn’t cry.  The salesgirls even commented that the twins were the easiest babies they had pierced.  They said that most of the babies continue to cry even as their parents are exiting the store.

We took them home, fed them, bathed them, and even as I was cleaning their earrings with the cleaning solution, they didn’t even flinch.  I have to twist their earrings three times a day and clean them a couple of times a day.  Everytime I do this, there is no resistance.  It went better than I expected.  They look adorable!  Above are some before and after pictures.  Babies with pierced ears…I love it!

Newborn pictures

Our friend, Nesha, recommended a photographer to us for the girls’ newborn pictures.  We took them about a month ago, and they came out great.  Unfortunately, the girls were very uncooperative.  They were fussy the whole time.  After the first hour, we decided to give them a bottle to calm them down.  While we were feeding them, the photographer was going through the pictures on her camera.  Out of that first hour, she didn’t get one single shot.  After their bottle, they were a little more camera-friendly.  You’ll see in some of the black and white pictures, they are totally naked.  We took these just after they downed a 4 oz. bottle.  So you guessed it…yep, they peed all over us.  Good times!  Out of the three hour shoot, she was able to produce 39 photos for us.  Shooting twins is pretty difficult.  We are very pleased with the way they came out though.  I bought their headbands at a little boutique called Ponies and Pigtails, and I think they look great in the pictures.  Hope you enjoy the twins’ first photo debut.
